About the Georgia Tech Lock Shop

The campus Lock Shop manages keyed entries for all buildings on campus. We are located on the ground floor of the O'Keefe Building.

The department creates keys for staff and faculty offices as well as vendors and contractors. Key requests may only be submitted to the Lock Shop by a Building Manager.

To request that your Buzzcard be activated for building access or a key made, please contact the Building Manager for the building to which you seek access.. Keys CANNOT be made for a building occupant without the prior approval of the Building Manager.

Key Policy FAQs

How do I order keys?

The first step in ordering a key is to talk to your building manager. The building manager will be the contact to fill any key requests. Building managers may require you to send them an email requesting a key or keys. Each department may have additional rules that you must follow in requesting keys. Each building manager can give you those departmental requirements. The building manager then sends an email request to the Lock Shop requesting key(s) along with the People Soft number and doc ID number for billing the cost of each key.

How will I know when keys are ready?

The Lock Shop personnel will deliver all keys to the requesting building manager (delivery fee applies) or the building manager can pick up the key (no charge). They will then contact the requestor about picking up the key(s). Each department has guidelines about signing out and picking up keys.

Will I need to show ID when I pick up keys?

Building managers will require you to show your Georgia Tech ID before issuing a key.

What do I do with keys I no longer need?

All keys should be turned back over to the building manager for that building.

How do I get a key if I am a contractor/vendor for Georgia Tech?

All contractors must have a project manager or building manager come with them or send an email to the Lock Shop approving a specific person and company to check out temporary keys. The Lock Shop has a form for the contractor to fill out and sign making them responsible for returning all keys to the Lock Shop. If the keys are not returned, the company will be charged for the cost of material and labor to re-key all doors affected by the keys that are not returned.
